Mauricio Perez

Dark Illusions was born in 2003 when a friend (Gustavo Zamarripa) and I decided to enter a music video contest for AFI and actually had to come up with a semi-cohesive story idea. The rest as they say, is history. I had a direction to go in and a real passion to pursue. Since that video, I’ve been fascinated with the dark side of humanity-every single person has the ability to be or act evil. We all have those inner demons and it’s up the individual to control them.

I graduated from Point Loma Nazarene University in 2008 with a BA in Media Communications: Productions. I’ve worked on everything ranging from commercials & PSA’s, to feature length films and music videos. I have experience in camera operating, sound mixing, rigging lights, editing, directing, writing, producing, & jib and stedicam operation. My strengths lie in directing, producing and editing and have been focusing in those areas over the past few years. I also love shooting and have a knack for composition and visual storytelling. From 2008 to 2016 I worked as an editor/videographer for the Fox 5 San Diego Morning News Show. In May of 2016, I transitioned over to media distribution technology and Dark Illusions came to a close. I currently trade in luxury assets but still have a fond appreciation for the film and TV medium
